Description

1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar
MS66 Deep Mirror Prooflike, OGH
Common Issue, Uncommon Reflectivity

1879-S $1 MS66 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. The second San Francisco Morgan issue was struck to the tune of more than 9.1 million pieces, making the 1879-S plentiful up through through the Gem Uncirculated grade. While non-Prooflike and Prooflike pieces are plentiful through MS66, Deep Mirror Prooflike examples become scarce in Premium Gem and finer grades. This spectacular Deep Mirror Prooflike example is entirely brilliant and deeply reflective, showcasing a radiant cartwheel effect. Sharply struck devices are richly frosted on mirrored fields that produce strong black-on-white contrast. This well-preserved Premium Gem shows only one pinpoint bit of struck-in grease on Liberty's cheek. Otherwise, the devices are remarkably free of distractions and abrasions. The issue becomes a major condition rarity in Superb Gem grades, leaving this Deep Mirror Prooflike Morgan with only nine finer examples at PCGS (7/25). Housed in a Generation 3.0 green label holder.(Registry values: P1, N991)
