Semireflective MS62 1855-O Gold Dollar

1855-O G$1 MS62 NGC. Doug Winter's Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint provides a useful capsule-summary of this issue: "The 1855-O is the most popular New Orleans gold dollar. It is the only issue from this mint that employs the popular Indian Head or 'Type Two' design... It is also popular with gold dollar collectors because of its status as the final issue from this mint." This MS62 example is unusual in that its luster is neither granular nor frosty, but semireflective. Green-tinged golden surfaces are well-preserved save for a few light, long abrasions and a cluster of digs at the bottom of the obverse. An important representative for the New Orleans gold collector. Census: 21 in 62, 18 finer (11/10).(Registry values: N4719)
