Description

1798 Heraldic Eagle Dollar, Sharp AU53
B-15, BB-112, Pointed 9, Wide Date

1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-15, BB-112, R.3, AU53 PCGS. Bowers Die State II. The reverse is struck slightly off-center southwest, with broad dentils at the upper right edge. Sharply struck but from lapped dies, where stars 1 and 13 appear smaller than the others and the date is weak from the lapping. Crisp definition remains on the rest of motifs, with bold hair strands and upper curls on Liberty and a sharply struck eagle. Mint luster resides in protected areas while blue and orange accents lend appeal to the semireflective silver surfaces.
