   Description
1883 "Anti-Racketeering" Nickel, Struck in Nickel, The Finest Certified
1883 Five-Cents, Judd-1717, Pollock-1922, R.6-7, PR 66 PCGS. The obverse is the same as used on the regular issue Liberty nickels from 1883. The reverse differs significantly, however, with the Roman numeral V having a curved scroll across it with the word CENTS incuse, the wreath is composed of cotton, corn, and wheat, E PLURIBUS UNUM in small letters below, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Allegedly this reverse design was engraved as a response to the Racketeer Nickels of 1883. Lightly toned with good depth of mirrors in the fields. This is the finest example certified of this important pattern.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2AL7, PCGS# 62134, Greysheet# 15090)
