Description

Lincoln Cent on a Silver Dime Planchet
Triple Struck, Memorial Reverse, MS64

Undated Lincoln Memorial Cent -- Triple Struck on 90% Silver Dime Planchet -- MS64 NGC. 2.5gm. The first strike of this untoned silver cent was well centered. The coin then failed to fully eject from the dies, and was struck a second time, approximately 50% off center toward 6 o'clock, at 4:30 relative to the first strike. The second strike is uniface, since a planchet was fed between the reverse and the reverse die during the later impression. Stretching of IN GOD WE TRUST on the second strike leaves an intermediate shelf that NGC has deemed a third strike, but might also be caused by a second contact of the dies during the descent of the second strike.
