Description

1881-S Double Eagle, MS62
Frosty Original Mint Luster
A Rare Date in Higher Grades

1881-S $20 MS62 PCGS. The luster on this Mint State 1881-S double eagle yields original rose-gold and peach-orange hues, illuminated by softly frosted cartwheel bands that roll throughout the fields and across the relief elements. Myriad small abrasions define the modest numeric grade, although this piece is quite attractive for the issue -- the 1881-S is rarely seen finer, with only a few dozen such examples known.(Registry values: N2998)
