1890-S Double Eagle, MS63

1890-S $20 MS63 PCGS. A mintage of more than 802,000 coins
ensures the availability of the 1890-S double eagle in Mint State,
although the majority of certified examples grade only in the MS61
to MS62 range. This Select example represents a much less often
available find, and higher-grade pieces are genuinely scarce, with
MS64 and better pieces appearing in our auctions on only 26
occasions since 1993. This piece displays vibrant, frosty mint
luster with lovely sun-gold and pale rose hues. A bold strike
characterizes the central high points as well as the obverse border
