Description

Felipe V cob 8 Reales 1742-FM, KM18a, Cal-800, RL-M76S-9, Calbeto - unlisted, choice toned VF, bold central details, struck on a broad flan, 27.41 grams. The assayer's initial M for Miguel Milano is visible on both sides, and the date can be discerned in the obverse peripheral legend at 9 o'clock. The bottom portions of the 1, 7 and 2 are present as well as about half of the 4. Santa Fe de Bogota (NR) Mint. Ex: Ponterio Sale 133, Lot 771 with the original tag (Joseph Lasser Collection.) Extremely rare, it is thought that only two examples exist. There is some faint graffiti on the reverse edge at 9 to 11 o'clock which appears to be a name, and a small natural flan flaw on the obverse below the pillars and waves.
