Surfaces -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Bowers Die State III+. A
nicely detailed Small Eagle silver dollar of the BB-71 variety that
Q. David Bowers estimates in The Encyclopedia of United States
Silver Dollars to have between 1,250 and 2,000 pieces available
(4/25). This Guide Book-listed variety is the only
1797-dated obverse with the 10x6 stars layout with the Large
Letters reverse. Bowers Die State III+ is an intermediate die state
with clash marks near Liberty's profile. With pewter-gray patina,
faint and transparent hues of sky-blue and champagne gold surface
occasionally, and despite the granularity this AU-level example has
good eye appeal.
