Description
Near-Gem 1907 High Relief Twenty
Popular Wire Rim Subtype
1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS64 PCGS. Aspects of
numismatics are subject to re-evaluation, sometimes over the years,
other times almost immediately. It is uncertain exactly when
collectors broke from the Mint's thinking that the wire rim on
certain High Relief 1907 Saint-Gaudens twenties was a defect;
certainly such thoughts are in the minority today, and the Wire Rim
pieces are recognized as a distinct and popular subtype. Wire Rim
or no, this is simply a gorgeous High Relief twenty, lightly
patinated yellow-gold with wondrous sculptural detail. The fields
are remarkably smooth with only a few shallow, though ultimately
grade-defining disturbances.(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26F2, PCGS# 9135, Greysheet# 10131)
