Description

1853-D Five Dollar, MS62
Ex: Ashland City

1853-D $5 MS62 NGC. Variety 34-Y. Ex: Ashland City. The 1853-D is a popular Dahlonega type coin typically found in VF to AU grades. Problem-free Mint State examples are rare relative to demand, and desirable when they exhibit eye appeal appropriate for the grade. The present olive-gold Southern No Motto five exhibits a fairly sharp strike on the major devices. The dentils are lightly brought up near 7:30 on the obverse and 10:30 on the reverse, which suggests the dies were out of parallel when the coin was struck. Luster is extensive, and no marks are of individual importance. Census: 7 in 62, 7 finer (3/24).
