1855 Kellogg & Co. Twenty, XF45
K-3b, Short Arrows

1855 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar XF45 PCGS. K-3b, R.5. Short arrows, O of CO in Liberty's hair. Growing pains at the fledging San Francisco Mint caused a shortage of the gold coins that underpinned the West Coast economy. Two makers, Kellogg & Co. and Wass, Molitor & Co., stepped up to strike private "double eagles" with a bullion content equal to their Federal counterparts. The present green-gold example has even, moderate wear and no relevant abrasions. Listed on page 391 of the 2014 Guide Book. Population: 12 in 45, 34 finer (6/13).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 6J5X, PCGS# 10225, Greysheet# 11793)
