Description

1860-S Three Dollar Gold, MS61
Scarce and Popular Branch Mint Issue

1860-S $3 MS61 NGC. Branch Mint three dollar gold coinage included the 1854 issues of Dahlonega and New Orleans, and San Francisco issues of 1855, 1856, 1857, 1860, and 1870, and the last date is currently unique. It is part of the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection that is on display at the ANA headquarters in Colorado Springs. Less than 100,000 threes were produced at the branch mints for all of the various issues, the total including just 7,000 examples of the 1860-S three dollar piece. This example has satiny bright yellow luster with excellent eye appeal. NGC has never graded a finer example and PCGS has graded two at the next higher numerical level. Census: 3 in 61, 0 finer (11/13).(Registry values: N4719)
