Description

1895-O Barber Half, MS66
Important Condition Rarity

1895-O 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. With a substantial mintage of more than 1.7 million half dollars, the 1895-O is available in a wide range of grades up to MS63 or even MS64. However, Gem or finer examples of this variety are important condition rarities. However, the top grade coins rarely get credit for their importance to collectors. Just look at the PCGS Population Report that shows 14 in MS62, 19 in MS63, 18 in MS64, and drops to five in MS65, and five more graded MS66 and MS67. The 1895-O usually comes nicely struck for a New Orleans half dollar. This example has slight weakness at the eagle's right facing claw, but exhibits bold detail everywhere else. The surfaces are brilliant and untoned with frosty mint luster. An exceptional example from an exceptional collection. Population: 3 in 66, 2 finer (11/15).
