1873 G$1 Closed 3, JD-1, High R.6, PR61 PCGS. A single batch of 25 proof gold dollars was delivered in 1873, on February 18th, using the Closed 3 reverse. Only 12 to 14 examples survive in all grades, but this is a rare opportunity to acquire a moderately affordable example in a modest grade. Orange-gold surfaces show moderate hairlines but a bold strike and good eye appeal. Population: 2 in 61, 5 finer (12/24).
