Description

1819/8 Half Dollar, O-104, MS63
Large 9,
Guide Book Overdate Variety

1819/8 50C Large 9, O-104, R.1, MS63 PCGS. CAC. Dramatic recutting on star 2 is the most valuable pick-up point for the O-104 variety, although star 4 is also recut. On the reverse, the E's in the legend are missing their top-left serif. This Guide Book variety is of never-ending popularity with Bust half collectors who insist on a comprehensive collection of the many overdates that characterize the series. Both Large 9 and Small 9 overdates exist for the 1819/8 issue. This example is exceedingly sharp and attractive with sun-gold and orange shades beneath frosty and lustrous, powder-gray patina. Housed in a first-generation PCGS holder and CAC endorsed. Population: 7 in 63, 9 finer. CAC: 3 in 63, 5 finer (7/16).
Ex: Hertzberg (3 /1987).
