Description

1861-S Half Eagle, XF45
Choice Surfaces, Rare Date

1861-S $5 XF45 PCGS. CAC. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. Fewer than 100 examples of the 1861-S half eagle survive. PCGS and NGC combined report 102 submissions, but this includes some duplication. No examples are known in Mint State. This Choice XF CAC coin displays old-time olive-gold patina with original dirt in the crevices and hints of luster in the fields at the peripheries. Light surface chatter accompanies the grade. Advanced collectors of Liberty have eagles understand the rarity of this issue and will want to pounce on this offering. Population: 7 in 45 (1 in 45+), 10 finer. CAC: 4 in 45, 2 finer (12/24).
Ex: The Fairmont Collection - Hendricks Set (Stack's Bowers, 4/2022), lot 5104.(Registry values: P8)
