Scarce Large Date Example

1842-D $5 Large Date XF40 PCGS. Variety 8-G. This lightly circulated Large Date 1842-D half eagle displays luster in the protected areas of the fields, and has attractive yellow-gold patina elsewhere. The strike is bold, and little detail is lost from wear. Only 100-125 examples are known in all grades, and those finer than the XF level are rare. This piece is housed in an old green label holder. Population: 7 in 40, 34 finer (2/16).
