Description
1850 Double Eagle, MS62
Conditionally Scarce First-Year Example
1850 $20 MS62 NGC. This extremely popular first-year issue
had a substantial mintage in excess of 1.1. million pieces, and
examples are readily available, but most of the known coins have
graded between VF and AU58. Mint State coins are considered rare.
This is a lovely coin that displays light yellow-gold color and a
radiant frosty sheen over both sides. The design motifs are fully
struck, and only a small number of stray surface marks are evident,
none of which are out-of-context for the MS62 designation. If not
for the presence of a few wispy hairlines in the field areas, this
pleasing example might have received an even higher grade. Census:
25 in 62 (2 in 62+), 13 finer (6/14).From The Charles G. Wright Family Collection.(Registry values: N7079)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268F, PCGS# 8902, Greysheet# 9785)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
