Description

1807 Quarter Eagle, AU55
BD-1, Popular Type Issue

1807 $2 1/2 BD-1, R.3, AU55 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/b, with a perfect obverse and lapped reverse. This is the usual die state for the 1807 quarter eagles. Slightly more than one-third of the 19,487 early quarter eagles struck from 1796 to 1807 were dated 1807, and today those coins are extremely popular with type collectors as well as variety specialists. This is the final quarter eagle of the design, but not the final use of the reverse die that continued to produce about 150,000 1807 dimes. Faint hairlines and a trace of rub appears on each side of this lovely example that displays light greenish-gold surfaces and ample mint luster. Population: 22 in 55, 52 finer (10/16).
