Description

1797 BD-4 Eagle, AU58
Heraldic Eagle Design
Rare Perfect Reverse State

1797 $10 Large Eagle AU58 NGC. Breen-6834, BD-4, High R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/a. The obverse is always seen in this late die state with two cracks through the final 7 that have joined into a small die break at that digit. The reverse of this example is perfect and uncracked, and only a few examples are known in that early die state. The late Harry Bass had one example in this state, and another in the later die state with reverse die cracks. Another early state example is part of the ANS collection.
Although both sides exhibit trivial handling marks, this lustrous near-Mint specimen has brilliant green-gold surfaces with a nicely centered strike. An impressive example for the specialist or type collector.(Registry values: P3)
