Near-Gem 1905 Liberty Nickel
Struck on a Thin Foreign Planchet
1905 5C Liberty Nickel--Struck on a Foreign Planchet--MS64
NGC. 2.7 grams. The flan appears to be a nickel-based
composition, considering the light gray color and hints of
champagne toning, although silver is also a possibility. This piece
has considerable weakness, especially on the reverse, resulting
from the thin planchet that is half the weight of a nickel but
nearly the same diameter.
