1855 Large-Size Flying Eagle Cent
Struck in German Silver
Judd-171a, PR62

1855 P1C Cent, Judd-171a, Pollock-196, R.7, PR62 PCGS. CAC. An eagle flying left dominates the obverse. 13 stars surround, and the date is below. On the reverse, the denomination ONE CENT is centered within a laurel wreath, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the border. Struck in German silver with a plain edge. Judd-171a is listed as Rarity-8 in the 10th edition of Judd, but PCGS has certified examples in six different grades, and USPatterns.com opines "about a dozen known." Many of the known examples have their own unique composition of German silver. The strike details are remarkably soft on this example, most likely the result of the dies being set too far apart.
