Description

1801 Eagle, BD-2, AU Details
A Lovely Example of the Type

1801 $10 --Smoothed -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. BD-2, R.2. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. The most available early eagle variety, as the large majority of the total mintage (44,344 coins) seems to have been for this die marriage rather than the scarcer BD-1. This is a lovely coin with fully struck motifs and even green-gold toning across both sides. The obverse fields have been smoothed, giving that side of the piece a faintly granular appearance. The surfaces are abrasion-free.
