Description
AU58 Details 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter
1916 25C --Scratched, Cleaned--ANACS. AU58 Details. Light gold toning visits the borders of this impressive near-Mint example. Cartwheel luster dominates both sides, and highpoint wear is absent on Liberty's leg and the eagle's breast. Careful inspection with a loupe eventually locates unobtrusive vertical slide marks, near the left border of the shield and on Liberty's head behind her eye. Mildly glossy from a light long-ago cleaning. These post-strike impairments are of lesser significance than the ANACS designations imply. Liberty's head is also well struck, unlike many 1916 Standing Liberty quarters this cataloger has seen. Collectors of the series quickly learn the mintage of the rare 1916: just 52,000 pieces. Among 20th century issues, only the 1913-S has a lesser production.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 242Y, PCGS# 5704, Greysheet# 5533)
