Description
Rare VF 1652 Oak Tree Sixpence
1652 6PENCE Oak Tree Sixpence VF20 PCGS. Noe-22, Crosby 1b-D, R.5. 34.1 grains. The Noe-22 designation is tentative. The same die pair was used for Noe-20 through Noe-22, with the differences specific to S1. It was at first weakly engraved (Noe-20), then the die was touched up with a backward S (Noe-21) which was finally corrected (Noe-22). On the present piece, the left border is softly defined, which makes definitive attribution problematic, and we suggest personal inspection. The obverse is also broadly off center toward 6 o'clock, and the tree is indifferently brought up. Most of the reverse is bold, however. We note a small D pinscratched beneath the N in ANO, reminiscent of the Dexter 1804 dollar. Listed on page 37 of the 2007 Guide Book. From The Jones Beach Collection.
