Important Choice Fine 1795 North Wales Halfpenny
Two Stars on Each Harp Side, Baker-35

1795 1/2P Washington North Wales Halfpenny, Two Stars at Each Side of Harp Fine 15 PCGS. Baker-35, Breen-1298, R.7. This great rarity is not to be confused with the comparatively plentiful Baker-34 variety with one star on each side of the harp. Diagnostic for Baker-35, the obverse has prominent die cracks, and the arc-shaped crack above Washington's head presumably developed into a large die break shortly later and ceased the production of this variety. A dark brown example with softly impressed devices and worn but partly readable peripheral legends. A different Fine 15 PCGS example of this very rare variety appeared in our 2008 Baltimore ANA Signature (lot 1489), and despite some surface pitting, realized $12,650. Population: 3 in 15, 2 finer (2/09).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# CVTL, PCGS# 776, Greysheet# 298)
