Description

High Grade 1871-CC Eagle--PCGS AU 53

1871-CC AU 53 PCGS. From a mintage of 7,185 coins it is estimated that today perhaps 65-75 pieces are known of the 1871-CC in all grades. What makes this coin significant, though, is that it is generally found only in well circulated condition, with a low-end VF being the average, placing this already-elusive issue near the top of the series for condition rarity. The fields are bright and semi-prooflike as with many of the survivors we have seen. Minimally abraded, the golden-orange color of the coin is enhanced by a light accent of pale reddish patina. Well struck throughout, this piece is at the lower end of the Condition Census for this scarce, low mintage issue. Population: 3 in 53, only 2 finer (4/98).
