Description

Choice XF 1862-S Half Eagle

1862-S $5 XF45 NGC. This is an excellent example with rich yellow-gold color and traces of luster near the borders. Both sides have splendid pinkish peripheral toning. Examples of this date are seldom encountered in any grade, and are rare in XF or better condition. This is from an old reverse die that was first used in the San Francisco Mint in 1857, thus it exhibits the older Type 1 Hub design. An important opportunity for the advanced collector, as higher grade examples seldom appear on the market.(#8293) (Registry values: P8)
