Description

Gem Red and Brown 1872 Cent

1872 1C MS65 Red and Brown NGC. Deeply mirrored fields and fully struck devices. The deep red color on each side is covered with streaky blue-violet toning. Examination with a loupe reveals a few small specks of carbon. The 1872 is a popular and scarcer date that was probably heavily melted. As Snow (1992) notes, "Vast amounts of cents were recoined during 1873-75." (Registry values: N2998)
