1879-CC Capped Die Dollar, VAM-3, MS64
1879-CC $1 Capped Die MS64 NGC. VAM-3. A Top 100 Variety. Die chipping is prominent around the repunched mintmark, which shows a medium-sized CC punched over a smaller version. Whispers of soft grayish-tan visit the lustrous surfaces of this near-Gem. The strike is typical, in that the obverse center is weak. Minute obverse handling marks preclude Gem status. NGC has seen only six coins finer and PCGS nine better (8/09).(Registry values: P6, N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 7088, Greysheet# 7451)
