Description

1878-S Morgan, MS66+ Prooflike
Intense Contrast, CAC

1878-S $1 MS66+ Prooflike PCGS. CAC. The Morgan silver dollar introduced in 1878 relied on the San Francisco branch mint to deliver about 43% of the commercial strikes needed that year. Prooflike examples become challenging at Gem levels and pieces any finer are rare. This Plus-graded Premium Gem in Deep Mirror Prooflike has a bold strike with razor sharp devices covered in luminous, frosty luster. Highly reflective fields produce stark white-on-black contrast and complement an impressive cartwheel effect. Liberty shows a small reed marking on her cheek, otherwise abrasions are limited to insignificant field nicks. PCGS and NGC, combined, show only three numerically finer Prooflike examples (8/25).(Registry values: P2, N2998)
From The Ramundo Collection of Morgan and Peace Dollars.
