Description
Splendid Choice 1883 Eagle, None Certified Finer
1883 $10 MS64 PCGS. Original peach and yellow-green hues endow this lustrous and unusually clean Liberty Eagle. The Philadelphia Mint coined nearly 8 million Eagles between 1880 and 1882, but 1883 began a period of low emissions. Only 208,700 pieces were struck. Nonetheless, in MS60 to MS62 grades, the 1883 can be obtained without much difficulty. In MS63, the 1883 is very scarce, since most survivors were indifferently stored for generations. In MS64, the issue is a significant rarity. As of (11/04), the combined PCGS and NGC population is 9 pieces with none finer.Ex: R.M. Smythe (8/02), lot 6464.
