Description

1856 Copper-Nickel Half Cent Pattern, Judd-177

1856 E1/2C Half Cent, Judd-177, Pollock-205, R.5, PR50 PCGS. Regular die trials striking for the Half Cent. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. An important metallurgical trial strike that tested the proposed alloy for the Flying Eagle Cents which were struck later in this same year. The surfaces have fairly even medium brown patina with a few tiny marks on each side and light rub evident over the highpoints of the devices. Weakly struck at the borders, as always.
