Description

1890-CC Double Eagle, AU55
Lustrous and Sharply Struck

1890-CC $20 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. On this and several other issues in the Carson City double eagle series, die states are known with lapped dies. The present 1890-CC example shows a sharp strike, but the eagle's tailfeathers are partially effaced by die lapping. Much yellow-gold luster remains in the fields, and the strike is sharp. A scattering of tiny marks appears over each side, not unusual for the grade.
