Description

Patinated 1807 Draped Bust Half MS62

1807 50C Draped Bust MS62 PCGS. O-110a, R.3. The Draped Bust type is much scarcer in Mint State than the Capped Bust type. Both designs were struck in the transitional year of 1807. One wonders how Chief Engraver viewed the passing of his Draped Bust type, and its replacement on denomination after denomination by John Reich's motifs. Mottled forest-green and fire-red envelops this smooth example. Sharply struck save for the stars near the beak. Each side has a network of fine die cracks throughout the borders, as described in the Overton standard reference. The lower loop of the 8 has a small letter H. Population: 22 in 62, 32 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N4719)
