Description

1858 20 Cent Plain Edge SPECIMEN 64 PCGS. Plain Edge, Heavy Cameo SPECIMEN 64 ICCS. Brilliant white with deeply mirrored, watery fields and heavily frosted devices. Lacquered at the mint, as were virtually all Canadian Specimen coins, and we feel that the few noticeable hairlines are in the lacquering, with the actual coin surfaces in pristine condition. The lacquering can be removed, and the coin may well grade much higher without this "protective" coating of lacquer. This piece is struck in coin (opposite) alignment and Specimens were produced with both coin and medal alignment as well as with Plain and Reeded edge. Two pieces have been certified finer by PCGS.

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 31700, Greysheet# 16642)
