Description

Late Die State 1795 LM-8 Half Dime

1795 H10C AU58 NGC. V-5, LM-8, R.4. This is a remarkable example for its high technical grade, late die state, and extensive display of adjustment marks that nearly cover the obverse. A prominent die crack extends from the border through the right arm of Y, the upper right obverse field, the bridge of the nose, and Liberty's cheek, remaining visible through her neck. The obverse is sharply detailed with all of Liberty's hair strands clearly defined. The reverse is much weaker with little remaining detail, but this is more a result of the adjustment marks than any other factor. Deep horizontal and diagonal adjustment marks cover nearly all of Liberty's bust, and they are lightly visible in the left obverse field as well. The reverse is rotated almost 90 degrees clockwise, and the reverse design details that are opposite the heaviest obverse adjustment marks are extremely weak. For the student of minting technology, this weakness is an important attribute. An impressive example with much to offer the advanced numismatist.(Registry values: P4)
