Description
Challenging C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle
K-10, AU Details
(1837-42) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 67G.
21C.--Scratched, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. K-10,
R.5. Kagin (1981) listed nine varieties of quarter eagles struck by
Christopher Bechtler, with K-10 being the most available.
Nonetheless, all examples are scarce to rare and highly desirable.
This rich yellow-gold specimen has been lightly cleaned, but still
exhibits flashy luster in the protected areas. A number of shallow
scratches are noted on the obverse, while the reverse is minimally
abraded. This briefly circulated piece would make a nice
representative of this elusive issue. Listed on page 360 of the
2010 Guide Book.Ex: Ninth Greater Houston Coin Club Convention (Henry J. Berube--New England Coin Company, 1/1966), lot 602 (envelope included).
