Charming C. Bechtler Five Dollar
With Star, K-20, AU Details
(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With
Star--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. K-20, R.4. This
variety features a large star on the obverse. Don Kagin (1981)
considers this piece to be part of the sixth series (out of seven)
of Christopher Bechtler issues. Bright yellow patina coats the
surfaces of this lightly circulated specimen. A number of faint
hairlines on both sides account for the modifier from NCS, but
there are no individually significant marks. Listed on page 361 of
the 2010 Guide Book.Ex: Dr. Conway A. Bolt Collection (Stack's, 4/1966), lot 1177 (envelope included).
