Description
Lovely MS67 1915-S Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle
1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS67 PCGS. This Superb Gem beauty is tied for the finest ever certified by either PCGS or NGC (6/08). It is a remarkable example with fully brilliant and highly lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Both sides are sharply detailed, with numerous fine die polishing lines imparting a splendid satiny appearance. The total mintage of this issue was originally 10,000 coins, but only 6,749 coins were actually sold at the issue price of $4 each, and the balance were later melted for recoinage. Some authorities have speculated that at least part of the bullion went to strike later gold commemoratives, such as the McKinley Birthplace coins. From The Dan McClure Collection.(Registry values: N4719)
