Description

João V gold 20000 Reis (Dobrão) 1727-M MS63 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM117, LMB-251. Striking visual appeal, displaying luster that dances across the boldly struck surfaces. A type often struck marginally off center, this example's complete collar offers additional opportunities for the reflectivity to dazzle in the viewer's hand.

Struck in the province of Vila Rica, where the Portuguese extracted most of the Brazilian gold, this short-lived issue departed from the duodecimal system that included 12,800 Réis coin as its largest denomination. Believed to be one of, if not the largest gold type ever struck for circulation purposes, it's undoubtedly an imposing piece.
