Description

Prooflike 1882-O Eagle, AU58

1882-O $10 AU58 NGC. CAC. This eagle dates from the year that the Chapman brothers, Henry and Samuel H., successfully auctioned the collection of legendary numismatist Charles I. Bushnell (who had died in 1880) for a record $13,000. In New Orleans the low mintage figures for eagles continued, in the case of the 1882-O only 10,820 coins; the facility's focus was clearly on Morgan dollars. Prooflike luster emanates from the surfaces of this lovely yellow-gold piece, which shows only light field chatter and excellent eye appeal. Census: 46 in 58, 15 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N1793)
