Variety 7-K, Rare Early Die State
1846-D/D $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Variety 7-K. The rare early
die state that shows remnants of an errant mintmark above the 1 in
the fraction. Both sides exhibit overlapping sets of clash marks,
as made. This well struck near-Mint Dahlonega five has an
orange-red obverse. The reverse is mainly lime-gold. Smooth aside
from a hair-thin mark beneath the hairbun. Population: 4 in 58, 1
finer (2/09).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25H3, Variety PCGS# 97742, Base PCGS# 7742, Greysheet# 226374)
