Struck Through Die Cap
Undated Rays Shield Nickel--Struck Through Die Cap--MS63
PCGS. This satiny nickel has light gold toning and a lustrous
high grade reverse. The obverse is nearly featureless, although the
shield is faintly evident upon patient evaluation. The obverse die
was blocked by a die cap (not included.) The cap was sufficiently
thin that some obverse definition passed through the cap to the
present coin. Struck in either 1866 or 1867, since the rays were
