BRITAIN. Catuvellauni & Trinovantes. Tasciovanus (ca. 20 BC-AD 10). AV stater (18mm, 5.27 gm, 12h). NGC Choice XF ★ 5/5 - 5/5. Trinovantian N. Two crossed open wreaths with opposed crescents and two pellets in center; pellet in annulet on each arm, VER hidden amongst ornaments in quarters / [T]-A-S-C, Celticized horseman galloping right, raising carnyx; wheel motifs around. Hobbs 1623-4. Van Arsdell 1734-1. SCBC 217. Cleanly struck in attractive "rose gold."

Tasciovanus had a long and eventful reign as one of the most powerful Celtic kings of Britain. His coinage was one of the largest and most sophisticated of the era. Long thought to be a Trinovantan king, he is now accepted as a ruler of the Catuvellauni who also held sway over the neighboring Trinovantes.
