1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling--Scratches--NGC Details. AU. Crosby 2-D, Noe-5, W-470, R.2. IN at bottom. A long straight scrape runs from the last I in the denomination through the D in (ENGLAN)D. The characteristic die break, here heavy, runs from that same letter to the adjacent A in AN (for ANNO). Another break appears at the inside right foot of the M in DOM. This piece is struck somewhat off-center on an irregularly shaped planchet that shows some lamination, most notably above (MAS)AT on the obverse. This piece is attractive, with pewter-gray coloration blending in shades of lilac and rose. Listed on page 37 of the 2010 Guide Book.
