Mary (Sole Reign, 1553-1558) Groat (4 Pence) ND (1553-1554) AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Tower mint, pomegranate mm, S-2492, N-1960. 1.98gm. MARIA • (m.m.) • D.' G.' ANG.' FRA S hIB.' REGI' lombardic lettering, unbarred As, crowned bust left, wearing simply-jeweled plain bodice and pearl necklace, rev. VERITA-S (m.m.) TEM-PORIS FILIA, lombardic lettering and unbarred As, square-topped Tudor shield over long cross fourchée, terminals with 'fishtail' ends. The clarity in Mary's facial and hair features provide a respectable level of visual appeal on this more affordable example of a classic Groat type.
