1793 Liberty Cap Cent, VF30 CAC
S-13, Excellent Eye Appeal
1793 1C Liberty Cap, S-13, B-20, Low R.4, VF30 PCGS. CAC.
The iconic Liberty Cap cent design was created in 1793, after the
Chain and Wreath cents mintage of that year. This was during the
dreaded yellow fever epidemic, causing a Mint closure in late
September. The 1793 Liberty Cap cent mintage was only 11,056 coins
as a result of the Mint shutdown, but ramped up to an astounding
918,521 Liberty Cap cents struck in 1794. The Liberty Cap cent
proved to be a popular design as opposed to the short-lived Chain
and Wreath cents, with the design being minted until 1796.This is a wonderful, problem free example with attractive eye appeal. Dark brown, slightly glossy surfaces have only very small marks, visible under loupe, with none of them being distracting. The strike is good, with some weakness in the centers that is typical for the S-13 die marriage. The beaded borders are full and well defined on both the obverse and reverse sides. With the 1793 Liberty Cap cent being a prize for collectors, there will be spirited competition for this superb CAC endorsed specimen.
