Republic 4-Piece Certified gilt-copper Proof Pattern Set 1868-So NGC,
1) 10 Pesos - PR64 Cameo, KM-Pn23
2) 5 Pesos - PR64 Cameo, KM-Pn21
3) 2 Pesos - PR63 Cameo, KM-Pn19
4) 1 Peso - PR63 Cameo, KM-Pn21

Santiago mint. Rarely encountered on the market as a group of such quality. The 10 and 5 Pesos exhibit exceptionally pleasing tangerine toning, while the smaller denominations carry a champagne hue across the fully brilliant fields. A most curious group with an impressive pedigree. Obviously a presentation set. In the King Farouk Sale, and later in the Pittman sale, these coins were housed in a presentation case, which also contained proofs of the five silver coins struck in 1867-68. After buying the set John Pittman placed all of the coins in an NGC display case, and the original mint case was later lost. The 5 silver coins from the set will be sold in our January 2024 New York sale. These four gold gilt patterns are very rare as individual pieces and the only complete set that we have seen. From the Coleccion Val y Mexia.
